Picked this up from an SSBB interview:
Apparently, when Sakurai left his previous company (which I assume was HAL Labs) he was going to ditch Meta Knight.
Question is, he left HAL shortly after Kirby Air Ride was released (in 2003) yet Meta appeared in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, which was released in 2004. So was Sakurai lying, or was Meta Knight too popular to dispose of?

Sakurai didn't work on Kirby AM, or on Squeek Squad. He wasn't in the credits.

He was in KATAM credits, actually. I haven't played SS in a while, though.

I wonder,did this come as a surprise to noone else? seriously,Sakurai's a jerk,and that makes it incredibly likely that he would ditch any character the fans love,cept maybe Kirby. Next thing ya know,he'll be thinking about ditching Dedede  |

It shocked me, obviously.
Meta Knight is the greatest Kirby character of all time. And the second most popular (only behind Dedede) because of his role in the games.
Dedede can't be ditched because of his role as a villain. Ditching him would be a horrible decision which would result in the Kirby series being nonexistent.

If they ditch DeDeDe, it's like Mario with no Bowser (Shigeru will NEVER stoop to Sakurai's level)
And without MK, It's like ditching Bowser Jr. (MK is an underling of Dedede, YOU HAVE TO FACE IT!)

didn't they already partially ditch bowser jr.?
and i forgot, did they have both metaknight and dedede in squeak squad? haven't played it since i lost it
